What Is With Pajama Day?

If you have children, you have certainly become aware that schools are now organizing new events such as pajama day, spirit week, mismatched clothes week and other events which probably did not exist when you were a child.

Some parents are puzzled by these events which seem to have no relationship to education, learning or anything remotely worth while. Some in fact, find it shocking. Why should they let their daughter go to school wearing night clothes? It seems downright strange to many people, particularly since they never had the opportunity to experience it themselves.

But pajama day activities can be educational. Many teachers use these events to read the children bedtime stories and learn about things related to sleep. Wearing unusual clothes to school can break up the sometimes boring routine of school.

For example, some children will wear their funny pajamas in order to get a laugh. Or the school may organize a winter pajama day in the summer and all the children will wear their winter pajamas. Then the teachers can have lessons relating to the different seasons of the year.

Pajama day has become such a popular event that some companies are organizing pajama day at work. For example Google has an annual pajama day. Some people have reported going for interviews at Google and being shocked to see all the employees including the hiring manager dressed in pajamas. But imagine the impact this kind of culture has on the attitude of the employees. Seeing the boss in their pajamas could be just the thing to break down the barriers and relieve the tension at the office.

It is difficult to say whether pajama day is an event that will always be around or if it is just a passing trend. But innovative ideas to make learning fun and interesting should be welcomed. Why not get into the spirit of pajama day and organize a pajama party for your friends? By sharing the fun, it may help you to understand what your children are experiencing.
